Saturday, 19 October 2019 from 13:30-16:30
BG01, Brunei Gallery, SOAS Campus

Public Theology and Social Movements in Post-1997 Hong Kong
Sunday 8 September 2019, 13:30-16:30 B104 SOAS Campus
** The place of this talk will be held in B104, SOAS Campus **
About this talk: Christians have been highly visible in the recent protests of anti-extradition law, whether they were chanting Singing Hallelujah to the Lord or organising prayer meetings in the protest sites. As a considerable number of Christians upholds the principle of separation of church and state and may perceive social or political engagement as inappropriate, this presentation seeks to explore the phenomenon of Protestants’ increasing participation in social movements through the use of public theology in post-1997 Hong Kong.
Sunday, 15 September 2019, 13:30-16:30 B103, Brunei Gallery, School of Oriental and African Studies, LONDON, WC1H 0XG

Venue: Brunei Gallery B102, SOAS, London WC1H 0XG
Time: 7-9pm Tue 2 July 2019
The Young Girls’ Heart (少女的心)was created in 2015 as a mutual help group on Facebook by the young Umbrella Movement activists to share their common experience of online gender and sexual harassment during and after the Umbrella Movement! Sadly, most of these attacks were from the “radical localists/right plastics!” who were supposed to be our comrades in the democracy movement!

Saturday, 29 June 2019 from 17:00-19:00
Brunei Gallery B103, SOAS
Saturday, 14:00-17:00, 22 Jun 2019
Brunei Gallery, SOAS, London
Independent Media supports Hong Kong
Speaker: Brian Hioe
Panellist: Shu Yan Chan
Venue: Brunei Gallery B102, SOAS, London WC1H 0XG
Time: 2-5pm Sat, 22nd June 2019
New Bloom editor Brian Hioe will speak about his experiences in Hong Kong last week’s protests. Hioe was in Hong Kong to report on the demonstrations there and observed the spontaneous, largely leaderless actions which erupted last week after Sunday’s demonstration (June 9th), which mobilized over one million Hong Kongers in protest, as well as the police violence which took place on Wednesday, June 12th. During the course of police actions against demonstrators on Wednesday, Hong Kong police fired rubber bullets, bean bags, water cannons, and tear gas at demonstrators, reportedly firing close to twice as much tear gas in one day as was used during the entire Umbrella Movement in 2014.
